Last updated: June 2026

Bitetrail operates bitetrail.co.uk. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our site, and your rights in relation to that information. By using Bitetrail, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Who we are

Bitetrail is an independent Indian food blog based in Birmingham, UK, run by Pratik and Vaishnavi Zanke. We review Indian restaurants across Birmingham and the UK and publish original food commentary. Questions about this policy can be sent via our Contact page at bitetrail.co.uk/contact.

Information we collect

We may collect: usage data (pages visited, time on site, browser type, device information) collected automatically via analytics tools; contact form data including your name, email address, and message; cookies to support site function, advertising, and analytics; and comment data (name, email, IP address) via the WordPress comment system.

How we use your information

We use information to operate and improve Bitetrail, understand visitor behaviour via Google Analytics, display relevant advertisements via Google AdSense, respond to contact form enquiries, and comply with our legal obligations under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

Cookies and advertising

Bitetrail uses four categories of cookies. Essential cookies are required for the site to function. Analytics cookies: Google Analytics sets _ga and _gid cookies to track sessions in anonymised form. Advertising cookies: Google AdSense and partners use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing history; opt out at google.com/settings/ads. Preference cookies remember your consent choices. A cookie consent banner appears on your first visit and you may accept or decline non-essential cookies at any time.

Third-party services

We use Google Analytics (Google LLC) for website traffic analytics; Google AdSense (Google LLC) for advertising — Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing history; WPForms for contact form submissions stored on our server; and Site Kit by Google to connect Bitetrail to Analytics and Search Console.

Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

We rely on Consent for advertising and analytics cookies where you have provided consent via our cookie banner; Legitimate interests for analytics that help us improve the site; and Contract to respond to contact form enquiries.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request erasure of your data; object to or withdraw consent for processing at any time; and lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Data retention

Contact form submissions are retained for up to 12 months. Analytics data is retained per Google’s default settings (26 months). We do not sell or rent your personal data to any third party.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be published on this page with an updated date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
